A Look Back at Our Hike Up to the Alpine Pastures

A look back at our traditional 2026 mountain hike through photos and press articles

Following our traditional summer pasture hike in 2026, we received a lot of positive feedback! Check out the photos from our event as well as the articles that appeared in the press.

What is the ascent to the mountain pastures?

Every year, the summer season is marked by the transhumance of farm animals from the valley barns to the mountain pastures. The alpine herders and their families lead the goats and cows on foot up to the mountain pastures for a summer season in the fresh air! It’s a friendly and festive occasion to celebrate the start of the summer season!

As a reminder, our hike up to the mountain pastures took place this Saturday, June 20, starting at 8:30 a.m. from the village of Saint-Martin-de-Belleville. The roughly two-hour hike to Chez Pépé Nicolas farm at an altitude of 2,000 meters brought together more than 200 people to enjoy the goats and cows. It was a hike accompanied by music, with a snack halfway through for those with a sweet tooth. This year, the “En-Montagnée” festival took place over three days, from Friday to Sunday, featuring various festive highlights, entertainment, communal meals, farmers’ markets, and activities.

The day was dedicated to showing solidarity with the charity “Pour le sourire de Coline” to help little Coline, who suffers from a rare genetic disorder. For every meal served during the ascent to the mountain pastures, €1 was donated to the charity. The association’s patron was interviewed during the event on June 20. Watch her story in this video:

What the press and media had to say about it!

The New Life

First, in the June 19 issue of the weekly magazine *La Vie Nouvelle*, in an article titled “The Ascent to the Alpine Pastures: A Profitable Event?”, Benjamin Lecouturier interviewed Thierry Suchet about this event, which is growing in popularity every year: “A tradition that has become popular in the region, requiring careful organization and attracting more and more participants.” Festive evenings, meals, a local farmers’ market… All of this helps Chez Pépé Nicolas build its reputation, with additional support from the local tourism offices.
